With reference to our letter of the ford of February 1915, I have the honour to enclose for the information of the Secretary of State the nuɛl valuations of the securities held by us ainst the te issues of the Hong Kong and Shanghel Benking Corporation end the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China, respectively,

at the begi........ing of the year 1916.

2. I also enclose copies of letters from the banks As to the notes in circulation in the Straits Settlements

on the 31st of December 1915.

3. It will be observed, in the case of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation that although the amount of their notes in circulation is less by g1,535 than the amount of the notes in circulation on the Slat of December 1914, the deficiency in the value of the securities deposited has increased from £388,423.6.3.

to 2505,918.4.3.

The value of the securities deposited

by the Chartered Bank is in excess of the mount required

by £8,618.15.3.
